Most of us haven’t been taught how to process and make sense of uncomfortable feelings. As a result, when we or someone we love experience distress, we can feel helpless as to how best support them. I became an advocate for EquiEnergy Youth, because I was inspired by their want to reduce suffering amongst young people, but in particular by their approach – they call on adults within the community to engage and act, and therefore not only learn how to support others, but by osmosis, learn how to better support themselves. This is the type of approach that can stop intergenerational trauma in its tracts, as well as set a child up with a sense of emotional hygiene for the rest of their lives.
